4B2 CBN Grinding Wheel – Dish Type | FEPA B213 (212/180 μm)
4B2 dish grinding wheel with cubic boron nitride for extreme rough sharpening and preparation of steel tool face surfaces.
Designed for HSS, tool steel and other ferrous materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for face grinding and sharpening at the earliest machining stage where maximum stock removal is required.
Typical applications include:
- Initial face grinding of tools from solid steel
- Heavy reconditioning of severely worn tools
- Bulk material removal before B181 → B151 sequence
The dish shape provides accurate contact on flat and angular surfaces.
What it actually does:
Maximum material removal with minimal control of surface quality.
Rapid stock removal to establish initial flat geometry.
Grain size (B213 ≈ 212/180 μm):
- Extreme stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 2.0–4.0 μm
- Leaves very rough surface with deep scratches
CBN (cBN1):
- Optimized for steel and ferrous materials
- High thermal stability
- Maintains cutting ability at elevated temperatures
- Long tool life in steel grinding
In practice:
This is a bulk removal wheel for steel tools.
Used as the first step before B181 → B151 → B126 sequence.
Focus is maximum productivity, not precision.
Specification:
- Type: 4B2 (dish)
- Abrasive: Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN1)
- Grit: FEPA B213 ≈ 212/180 μm (ANSI 70/80)
- Concentration: 100%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why CBN:
- Designed for steel (diamond is not suitable)
- High thermal resistance
- Stable cutting at elevated temperatures
Use for:
- Steel tool sharpening
- Face grinding
- Extreme rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Carbide (use diamond)
- Finishing operations
- Polishing
