Short Description
4B2 Diamond Grinding Wheel – Dish Type | FEPA D107 (100/80 μm)
4B2 dish grinding wheel for rough sharpening and preparation of tool face surfaces.
Designed for carbide and other hard brittle materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for face grinding and sharpening with reduced grinding forces.
Typical applications include:
- Face grinding on machines with limited rigidity
- Sharpening of long or thin tools
- Operations sensitive to heat and vibration
The dish shape provides accurate contact on flat and angular surfaces.
What it actually does:
Controlled material removal with smoother cutting behavior.
Less aggressive than 100% concentration, improving stability and reducing thermal load.
Grain size (D107 ≈ 100/80 μm):
- High stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 0.6–1.2 μm
- Prepares surface for D91 → M63 sequence
Concentration 50% means:
- Lower grinding forces
- More open structure → excellent chip evacuation
- Reduced heat generation
- Smoother and more stable cutting
- Trade-off: shorter tool life vs 100%
In practice:
This is a low-load roughing wheel.
Used when machine rigidity is limited or vibration is present.
Ideal for delicate tools and unstable setups.
Specification:
- Type: 4B2 (dish)
- Abrasive: Synthetic diamond (AC4)
- Grit: FEPA D107 ≈ 100/80 μm (ANSI 140/170)
- Concentration: 50%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why this concentration:
- Reduced cutting forces
- Better control in unstable conditions
- Lower risk of burning
Use for:
- Face grinding
- Tool sharpening
- Low-load rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Maximum productivity grinding
- Finishing operations
- High-pressure grinding
