4B2 CBN Grinding Wheel – Dish Type | FEPA B181 (180/150 μm)
4B2 dish grinding wheel with cubic boron nitride for extreme rough sharpening and preparation of steel tool face surfaces.
Designed for HSS, tool steel and other ferrous materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for face grinding and sharpening at the earliest stage where maximum material removal is required.
Typical applications include:
- Initial face grinding of HSS tools from solid
- Heavy reconditioning of worn tools
- Bulk material removal before B151 → B126 sequence
The dish shape provides accurate contact on flat and angular surfaces.
What it actually does:
Extreme material removal with minimal surface control.
Rapidly removes large volumes of material and establishes initial flat geometry.
Grain size (B181 ≈ 180/150 μm):
- Very high stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 1.5–3.0 μm
- Leaves very deep and aggressive grinding marks
CBN (cBN1):
- Optimized for steel and ferrous materials
- High thermal stability
- Maintains cutting ability at elevated temperatures
- Long tool life in steel grinding
In practice:
This is an extreme roughing wheel for steel tools.
Used as the first step before B151 → B126 → B107 sequence.
Focus is maximum productivity, not precision.
Specification:
- Type: 4B2 (dish)
- Abrasive: Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN1)
- Grit: FEPA B181 ≈ 180/150 μm (ANSI 80/100)
- Concentration: 100%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why CBN:
- Designed for steel (diamond is not suitable)
- High thermal resistance
- Stable cutting at elevated temperatures
Use for:
- Steel tool sharpening
- Face grinding
- Extreme rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Carbide (use diamond)
- Finishing operations
- Polishing
