6A2 Diamond Grinding Wheel – Flat Recessed Type | FEPA D181 (180/150 μm)
6A2 flat recessed diamond grinding wheel for extreme rough sharpening and preparation of flat surfaces.
Designed for carbide inserts, cutting tools and technical glass.
Where it is actually used:
Used for flat surface grinding and insert sharpening at the earliest machining stage where maximum stock removal is required.
Typical applications include:
- Initial grinding of carbide inserts from solid
- Heavy reconditioning of worn flat tool surfaces
- Bulk material removal before D151 → D126 sequence
The recessed design provides clearance and stable access to flat surfaces.
What it actually does:
Maximum material removal with minimal control of surface quality.
Rapid stock removal to establish initial flat geometry.
Grain size (D181 ≈ 180/150 μm):
- Extreme stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 1.5–3.0 μm
- Leaves very deep and aggressive grinding marks
In practice:
This is an extreme roughing wheel.
Used as the first step before D151 → D126 → D107 sequence.
Focus is maximum productivity, not precision.
Specification:
- Type: 6A2 (flat recessed)
- Abrasive: Synthetic diamond (AC4)
- Grit: FEPA D181 ≈ 180/150 μm (ANSI 80/100)
- Concentration: 100%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why this shape:
- Stable flat surface grinding
- Clearance for inserts and small parts
- Reduced interference during sharpening
Use for:
- Carbide inserts
- Precision tools
- Technical glass
- Extreme rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Finishing operations (use D91 → M10)
- Polishing
- Steel
