Short Description
4B2 Diamond Grinding Wheel – Dish Type | FEPA D181 (180/150 μm)
4B2 dish grinding wheel for extreme rough sharpening and preparation of tool face surfaces.
Designed for carbide and other hard brittle materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for face grinding and sharpening at the earliest stage where maximum material removal is required.
Typical applications include:
- Initial face grinding of end mills and milling cutters from solid
- Sharpening of carbide saw blades with heavy wear
- Bulk material removal before D151 → D126 sequence
The dish shape provides accurate contact on flat and angular surfaces.
What it actually does:
Extreme material removal with minimal control of surface quality.
Rapidly removes large volumes of material and establishes initial flat surface.
Grain size (D181 ≈ 180/150 μm):
- Very high stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 1.5–3.0 μm
- Leaves very deep and aggressive grinding marks
In practice:
This is an extreme roughing wheel.
Used as the first step before D151 → D126 → D107 sequence.
Focus is maximum productivity, not precision.
Specification:
- Type: 4B2 (dish)
- Abrasive: Synthetic diamond (AC4)
- Grit: FEPA D181 ≈ 180/150 μm (ANSI 80/100)
- Concentration: 100%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why this shape:
- Accurate face contact
- Access to cutting edges
- Suitable for angular surfaces
Use for:
- Face grinding
- Tool sharpening
- Extreme rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Finishing operations (use D151 → M10)
- Polishing
- Precision grinding
