1FF1 Diamond Grinding Wheel – Double-Sided Conical Profile | FEPA D213 (212/180 μm)
1FF1 flat diamond wheel with double-sided conical profile for extreme rough grinding of cutting tool features.
Designed for carbide and other hard brittle materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for grinding chip-breaking flutes and narrow profiles with reduced grinding forces at the earliest machining stage.
Typical applications include:
- Initial shaping of chip breaker geometry on end mills and drills
- Grinding of deep and narrow flutes from solid carbide
- Bulk material removal in low-rigidity or vibration-prone setups
The double-sided conical profile enables stable profile generation with controlled contact.
What it actually does:
Maximum material removal with smoother and more controlled cutting action.
Less aggressive than 100% concentration, improving stability in difficult conditions.
Grain size (D213 ≈ 212/180 μm):
- Extreme stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 2.0–4.0 μm
- Prepares surface for D181 → D151 sequence
More forgiving and less sensitive to machine instability.
Concentration 75% means:
- Reduced grinding forces
- More open structure → improved chip evacuation
- Smoother and more stable cutting behavior
- Trade-off: shorter tool life vs 100%
In practice:
This is a controlled extreme roughing wheel.
Used when maximum material removal is required but machine rigidity is limited.
Ideal for deep flutes, long tools and unstable setups.
Specification:
- Type: 1FF1 (double-sided conical)
- Abrasive: Synthetic diamond (AC4)
- Grit: FEPA D213 ≈ 212/180 μm (ANSI 70/80)
- Concentration: 75%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why this shape:
- Access to narrow grooves
- Controlled profile generation
- No interference in tight areas
Use for:
- Chip breaker flutes
- Tool profile grinding
- Controlled extreme rough shaping
Do not use for:
- Maximum pressure grinding
- Finishing operations
- Precision work
