1FF1 Diamond Grinding Wheel – Double-Sided Conical Profile | FEPA D107 (100/80 μm)
1FF1 flat diamond wheel with double-sided conical profile for rough profile grinding of cutting tool features.
Designed for carbide and other hard brittle materials.
Where it is actually used:
Used for grinding chip-breaking flutes and narrow profiles with reduced grinding forces.
Typical applications include:
- Profile grinding on machines with limited rigidity
- Initial shaping of chip breaker geometry on end mills and drills
- Operations where lower thermal load is required
The double-sided conical profile enables stable profile generation with controlled contact.
What it actually does:
Productive material removal with smoother cutting behavior.
Less aggressive than 100% concentration, but easier to control in sensitive setups.
Grain size (D107 ≈ 100/80 μm):
- High stock removal rate
- Typical Ra ~ 0.6–1.2 μm
- Prepares surface for D91 → M63 sequence
More forgiving and less prone to loading than 100% concentration.
Concentration 75% means:
- Reduced grinding forces
- More open structure → better chip evacuation
- Smoother cutting action
- Trade-off: shorter tool life vs 100%
In practice:
This is a controlled roughing wheel.
Used when stability is more important than maximum productivity.
Ideal for long tools, thin geometries and vibration-prone setups.
Specification:
- Type: 1FF1 (double-sided conical)
- Abrasive: Synthetic diamond (AC4)
- Grit: FEPA D107 ≈ 100/80 μm (ANSI 140/170)
- Concentration: 75%
-
Body: P / A / S / Ap
(Pressed / Aluminum / Steel / Aluplast)
Body options:
- Pressed: lighter weight, vibration damping, better surface finish
- Aluminum: lightweight with good rigidity, general-purpose solution
- Steel: maximum rigidity for heavy-duty grinding
- Aluplast: balanced weight and rigidity
Why this shape:
- Access to narrow grooves
- Controlled profile generation
- No interference in tight areas
Use for:
- Chip breaker flutes
- Tool profile grinding
- Stable rough grinding
Do not use for:
- Maximum stock removal with high pressure
- Final finishing
- Polishing
